Selected for the following category(s)
This documentary follows director Isaac Shim's perspective as it traces the symbolism and emotions contained in the colors of saekdong, a traditional Korean garment.
The aesthetics of the “white-clad people,” who favored wearing white, and the worldview and life philosophy embodied in the five cardinal colors (obangsaek) still quietly breathe within our daily lives today.
Though tradition may seem severed, its meaning lives on—in the folds of clothing, in pieces of fabric, and in the harmony of colors.
From artist Kim Ok-hyun, who dresses her grandson in a saekdong jacket, to artist Lee Kang, who reinterprets the traditional hues of saekdong through modern painting, color continues to live and breathe as the language of the heart.
"Wearing Colors" captures, through the director’s personal experiences, observations, and delicate lens, the enduring presence of these “colors of the heart,” once thought forgotten, still carried forward by someone’s hands today.
It is a journey that reads the heart through color and revives the connection to tradition through the heart.
