Mi hija follows a strained relationship between a first-generation American teenage daughter and her well-meaning yet controlling immigrant mother. As the daughter, Hija, prepares for a family trip, her mother's attempts to mold Hija into a young lady affect Hija's mental health in a quiet internal crisis. The story escalates into a painful confrontation between the two, with the hope for a more understanding future despite their generational and cultural differences.
