As a filmmaker, I believe some of the most important stories are the ones that history has allowed to fade from public memory. O'Day Short: An Act of Justice is one of those stories. When I first learned about O'Day Short and his family, I was struck not only by the tragedy they endured, but by the extraordinary courage they demonstrated. In 1945, they made the simple yet profound decision to purchase a home and live where they believed their family deserved to live. That decision challenged the racial barriers of the time and ultimately cost them their lives. Their story is not just a chapter in Fontana's history. It is a defining moment in California's civil rights legacy.
