A 60-minute creative documentary in which a Congolese-born filmmaker in Europe revisits his grandfather’s memories of Belgian rule, a former colonial administrator, and Claude Temperman, the mixed son of a white colonist and a Black Congolese woman. Through intimate conversations and archival images, the film confronts how colonial history continues to shape Congo and contemporary Europe.

Submitter Statement
Jérija Bengi is a filmmaker interested in human and social issues, striving to show them as honestly as possible. Inspired by documentarists like Louis Theroux, he values open, non-judgmental encounters with people. His current film grew out of long-overdue questions to his grandfather about colonial history. He seeks a conciliatory yet critical tone and hopes his work helps audiences rethink the past and build bridges between generations and perspectives.
