In Guatemala, a bold team is redefining mobility—building wheelchairs that don’t just move kids, but set their lives in motion.
Submitter Statement
When we began this project, I thought I was making a film about innovation and access, but what I found was something far more personal. This film opened my eyes to the quiet strength and beauty in a place I did not expect. It reminded me that joy, dignity, and purpose aren’t found in what we possess, but in how we live and love each other. What began as a story about wheelchairs became a story about humanity, resilience, and the universal desire to belong.
As a filmmaker, I’m always drawn to stories that reveal what connects us beneath all our differences. Untethered became one of those rare projects that reorients how I see the world. This film is not about sympathy, it’s about seeing clearly. At its core, it’s a story about freedom, about dignity, innovation, and the unshakable belief that every person deserves the chance to move, to belong, to thrive. My hope is that audiences walk away inspired to look for hope in unexpected places, to believe that even small acts of compassion can change lives, and to rediscover what true freedom really means.
