In a remote North Carolina monastery, Father Thomas, a retiring priest obsessed with recent Byzantine discoveries in Istanbul, summons Adriel, a scarred young priest from Istanbul, to translate government letters. Grace, Thomas’s curious daughter, grows intrigued by Adriel. Drawn together by a philosophical game of perfection, they explore ideals of flawlessness, uncovering hidden talents and a deep spiritual love that unites their imperfect souls.

Submitter Statement
Nemesis is a meditation on imperfection, faith, and the fragile beauty of human connection. At its core, this story is about two souls drawn together by a shared quest for perfection, only to find solace and strength in their flaws. It is a journey that delves into the nuances of faith — not only religious belief but the faith we place in ourselves and others.
By setting this narrative within the isolated tranquility of a monastery, we invite the audience into a space where the echoes of faith and doubt are amplified. Adriel and Grace are characters shaped by forbidden pasts and unfulfilled desires, yet their imperfections allow them to perceive something transcendent within each other. Their connection, forged through an intellectual and spiritual game, becomes a powerful metaphor for acceptance and redemption.
Visually, I aim to contrast the rigidity of religious devotion with the fluidity of human emotion. The cold, austere architecture of the monastery becomes a canvas against which warmth and intimacy are painted through light, shadow, and texture. The dialogue is sparse yet charged, allowing silence to speak as much as words.
Nemesis is not only a story about faith but a contemplation of how love can emerge from fractured places and redefine what it means to be whole. It is a film that invites the audience to reflect on their own imperfections and find beauty within them.
