Submitter Statement

“D'ombre et de lumière” is my third short film after “Alone” in 2010 and ‘Ayudame’ in 2013, both shot with live action footage. With “D'ombre et de lumière,” I wanted to make a short, powerful film that deals with a subject that is terrible for those affected and their loved ones. The film has an aesthetic that is at once dark, disturbing, luminous, and poetic. With the rapid advances in generative AI in recent months, and after various promising trials, I set myself a daunting challenge: to make a short film lasting several minutes that was as realistic as possible. My goal was to push/combine AI tools and their current capabilities to the maximum in order to make the illusion possible.
