The Wolves return in Attica after 60 years of absence and wildlife management problems are coming to the surface. Conflicts with humans are inevitable and this event causes big reactions. Especially, when the most demonized animal of all time, has settled in the abused mountain of Parnitha.

Submitter Statement

Parnitha is the most important ecosystem of Greece and is considered the “lungs” of Athens. In the last years, the mountain has transformed into a “business field” and its downgrade is obvious. Now, there is a new issue of managing the wolf and the wild fauna in an ecosystem adjacent to the largest city in Greece,

which takes on large dimensions, with the residents of the surrounding areas and the visitors not having sufficient information to know how to deal with the situation. At the same time, various conspiracy theories are being developed, that do not only target the animals and the environment, but hide the real cause of the current management problems.

Therefore, we considered it necessary to create a documentary, through which the context of the re-appearance and settlement of the wolf in Parnitha, as well as the management situation, in terms of the problems created, would be clarified.

Ion Efthimiou is a senior student of the Department of Photography and Audiovisual Arts of the University of West Attica. He is involved in portrait photography and documentary research and production. He has completed 2 short films “Occupation-ResistanceLiberation” (2024) and “The Outlaws” (2025). He is currently directing the feature-length documentary film "The Last Fir", about the commercialization of Mount Parnitha.
