Suzy and Billy are an unhappy middle-aged couple whose affection has long faded away. Suzy feels used by her careless husband, enslaved by the role of a subordinate housewife. She escapes from her worries and loneliness into addiction of night's gluttony, spending nights next to the kitchen’s refrigerator. However, one night, her depressing fate is going to change thanks to a visit of two female vampires, who become for her a model of the strong, independent, and emancipated woman she always wanted to be.

"Nibbling of the Night" is a women-empowering story and a black comedy with an inspiring moral, which, under a mask of humour, presents the problem of people lacking strength to introduce changes into their life.

The animation includes references to Gothic literature, and all the characters' dialogues are spoken in rhymes similarly to the stage dramas from the Romantic era.

Submitter Statement

My life goal is to create thought-provoking animated films which could inspire us to build a better world.

My name is Gabi Bania and my greatest passion is creating animated films, that is a field in which I was self-taught.

Since 2018, short films made and directed by me altogether with my screenplays have been presented and awarded at over 220 different festivals and film reviews in over 30 countries around the world, including Canada, Australia, France, Japan and China, winning over 40 awards and getting first places in the USA, Brazil, Poland and the Czech Republic.

In my animated films, I present important social problems of the modern world - e.g. hate and excessive competition, ecology, trauma related to the difficult past, loneliness and longing, transience, reconciling passion with work, the presence and importance of women in art, as well as Polish native culture, often referring to works from the time of Polish Romantic era.

Currently, I am an MA Animation student at the University of South Wales in Cardiff, in the UK.

In March 2024, I started teaching as a visiting lecturer at my university, USW, conducting classes in the screenwriting module for students of the BA (Hons) English and Creative Writing faculty.

In November 2023, I became the winner of the national "Young Polish Woman" competition in the "Culture and Art" category, being the only person in the program creating animated films.

In September 2023, I started my Master's degree and became a Media Grants Cymru scholarship holder.

In July 2023, I graduated with First Class Honors from the BA (Hons) Computer Animation course at USW with specialization in 3D character animation and directing.

In 2021, as the first international student and the first creator of the animated films, I became a laureate of the "Hothouse" program organized by the Irish "Fresh International Film Festival".

In 2020, I finished Film High School with Bilingual Departments at the Warsaw Film School in Poland graduating from a director & cinematographer course.

I also write texts, including film scripts, stories, and poetry, deal with large format drawing and painting, create artistic photos and photobooks.

I have also given many educational presentations to primary and secondary schools, sharing my work, and talking about the inspirations from the Romantic era and Greek mythology, which are often present in my animated films and other artistic projects.

Recently, I finished my eighth short film, this time in stop-motion puppet animation technique, entitled "Nibbling of the Night", about female power and independence, which script, direction, design and creation of puppets as well as character animation were made fully by me.

Currently, I develop my skills in the field of 3D computer animation and work on two new animated films in 3D and 2D computer animation techniques.
