The documentary film “Khaneh Siah Ast” (The Black House), directed by Forough Farrokhzad, narrates the life of a family with an elderly mother who belongs to the leprosy generation. Despite the passing years since the making of the documentary, the family continues to grapple with the repercussions of the mother’s leprosy within society in the present day. Their place of residence has also become problematic. The mother’s life is intricately connected to that of her daughter. The documentary film “Khaneh Siah Ast” was created in the autumn of 1962 at the Baba Baghi Leprosarium in Tabriz, Iran. Submitter Statement
“Art, for understanding the world and improving human lives alongside each other, finds meaning and becomes beautiful when we comprehend each other’s pain through cinema. Understanding the pains of the people around us will fill our souls with love, which is the purpose of this world
I am Navid Sadeghi, born on September 16, 1998, in Ahar, a small city in East Azerbaijan province, Iran. During my adolescence, I realized that the concept of life takes shape through an understanding of cinema. Human lives are shaped by a combination of free will and the destiny that awaits them. Interacting with diverse people around the world, I discovered that cinema is a visual realm where subjects, along with directors, tell stories. Reality and narrative in life are akin to the imagery in a documentary. It’s not just about the subject; it’s the synergy between the subject and the filmmaker that brings the story to life. Understanding this symbiosis of documentary filmmaking and life, I decided to create my own cinematic world by delving into the concepts and skills of documentary filmmaking. I aim to capture the true essence of individuals whose lives have been shaped by the bitter realities of existence and unforeseen events. These individuals strive for a better life, fueled by hope, even as their destinies are influenced by unexpected circumstances that life throws their way. At the age of 20, I embarked on my journey in documentary filmmaking, combining theoretical knowledge from esteemed instructors with practical experiences behind the scenes of various documentaries. Now, having completed my master’s degree in cinema, I have produced three documentaries and one short film. My aspiration is to use cinema as a medium to portray the lives of those who have been forgotten, bearing hidden pain, and to bring their stories to the cinematic screen.
