Charlie follows a young woman in London as she navigates through a day of self-reflection and heartbreak after her five-year boyfriend from Canada breaks up with her. Deciding to swallow her (very big) pride, she confronts her boyfriend for a humble second chance, but finds a shocking surprise that sets in motion the bitter, crass and off-handed woman she becomes. Charlie is the glimpse into a traumatic moment in her life that plays as the roots for the bigger story, Take it Easy Charlie the feature. It's about the weight of our experiences and choices that we carry forward into our future.

Submitter Statement

Charlie is the first production I both wrote and directed, and I'm incredibly proud of the little gem. At it's core, Charlie is about our raw and messy, sometimes addled with regret lives, and the sting all of it has on our mental health. I will always want the grit of real life and relatability in my stories, in all of my art. It's the pulse in everything I create. I want Charlie to be felt on some level by everyone, with a little cringey, bold and uncomfortable humour thrown in for great measure. "Did Charlie really just say that?...Really?" I love British humour, there will always be a bit of that thread through my stories, too. I know Charlie is the first of many, it's too big of a deal to me to stop here.

Nicole’s work in film began in 2008 on the production of Rolland Emmerich’s 2012, filmed in Vancouver, BC as a production assistant. Falling in love with the visual story telling aspect of film, her career in the industry graduated to costume supervisor to design on various Hallmark movies. Eventually, she began working as a script supervisor and story editor, sharpening her skills on writing for the screen and its translation in production. Her first script, Take it Easy, Charlie, launched her true passion for screenwriting. Nicole moved to Calgary in the fall of 2023 where writing and production became her full-time job. In 2024 she had two of her feature film scripts produced. The first, We Kill Them All, was released in January 2025, and her first horror film entitled The Wrath which was shot in both Canada and Thailand. The release of The Wrath will be in late 2025. Not only did Nicole have two features produced in one year but she also wrote and directed her first short film called Charlie, which is the origin story of her feature film script Take It Easy, Charlie. She is currently in the process of writing three more scripts, a true-crime horror entitled Pig Farm Killer, and two thrillers entitled Secrets We Keep and Capricious. All three features are set to be produced in 2026/2027.
